| This narrow, quirky house was built by an architect as his personal residence in the 1950's. It felt like somewhat of a "Modernist tree house bachelor pad", built on the cheap with plywood walls, bare concrete block, and exposed plumbing and wires. Being a memorably unique house, we were excited when a client of ours bought it with the intention of fixing it up to resell. Together with the client, we put together a strategy to redesign this house to serve as an elegant city home. A master suite with a rooftop spa was added on top of the existing home, which looks northwest across the Aurora Bridge to the Olympics. The house was peeled back down to its original skeleton, and then re-clad in mahogany panels, copper roofing, refitted with black, metal windows, and completely refurbished on the interior, with cherry flooring, maple cabinetry, and a steel and glass staircase. |
