| This is an old Seattle farmhouse with an amazing westerly view over Ballard to the Olympic Mountain Range. The original house shot straight up from a steeply sloped, dog-worn yard. Our challenge was to improve the connection between the house, the future garden, and the view. This was achieved by the addition of a wrap-around porch, which creates an intermediate zone-part of the house, yet also part of the outdoors. Further connections were made with the addition of doors onto a new dining terrace. The rest of the yard was broken into manageable, terraced zones, which climb down the yard from the dining terrace. Finally, a new entry stair was created, which spills out in three directions into the yard. The owners have since planted a beautiful yard and garden, which is a favorite spot for summertime parties. | |
