This house was designed for a small lot on a busy street in an affluent Seattle neighborhood. Having very little available yard space, care was given to creating elevated, exterior terraces. These terraces offer outdoor spaces which are safely elevated above the chaos of the traffic below. The living room appears as a separate pavilion, sitting on top of the pedestal created by the daylight basement below. This room has been rotated 30 degrees, given corners of glass, and oriented to the views. The exterior spaces created by the rotation of this room create the main floor terrace. The more private spaces of the house appear as a second "pavilion", rising up one more floor in height, to house the master suite. Between these two pavilions lies an upper deck, which serves as an outdoor spa area for the master suite.

The house employs a contrasting pallet of materials, blending traditional cedar bevel siding with corrugated metal siding and roofing on the exterior. This juxtaposition is carried through to the interior, with the use of exposed open steel web joists to support wood ceilings, warm wood floors, industrial sash windows, and an exposed concrete block fireplace. The contrast of the metal, industrial elements with the warmer tactile wood elements creates a nice, contrasting setting in which to appreciate the beauty of each material.
